DR. ERIN KANERVA, DVM
Veterinarian
I was born and raised in Sudbury, where animals have always played a major role in my life. Since the day I came into this world, I have been surrounded by animal companions, from cats and dogs, to rats and fish, to horses. I was a pretty shy kid, but I always felt at ease with my pets, due to their unconditional love, nonjudgement, and loyalty. I could always be myself around them, and from these experiences I deeply understand how much meaning, fulfillment, and joy pets can bring into our lives.
I never had to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up because the answer was so obvious to me from as far back as I can remember. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Biology at Laurentian University in Sudbury, and was accepted to the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph after that. I graduated from OVC in June 2015. I am excited to be in a field of work that blends my love of continual learning with the ability to improve the lives of our deserving pets.
Through countless experiences at the vet as a pet owner over the years, and after coming to know many great veterinary role models, I have figured out exactly what kind of veterinarian I want to be – one that strives to provide the absolute best medical care, and one who values building meaningful relationships with pet owners and their furry family members. This aligns exactly with the goals of Upper Canada Animal Hospital, and I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside this family of like-minded people who will help me become the best veterinarian I can be.
I currently live in Niagara-on-the-Lake with my partner Dan. We have fallen in love with our beautiful surroundings and are gradually exploring everything this area has to offer. We share our home with our three cats (Teddy, Taz, and Dandy), who are endless sources of companionship, happiness, and entertainment!
